On 9th August 2014, unarmed 18 year old Michael Brown was shot by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri, sparking social unrest that continues to this day. Here is a petition to prevent police misconduct.
Okay, This is simply ignorant and frankly quite stupid. I’m going to break this down by this so called “Petition” that is listed
1. “The avoidable shooting and killing or otherwise murdering of an unarmed citizen who does not have an outstanding warrant for a violent crime should be a federal offense.”
- And how exactly do you wish that officers find out that the people are unarmed? I can easily site over 10 sources of instances where an officer was hurt or killed by suspects carrying concealed weapons, passing this portion would simply lead to more unneeded deaths of officers.
2. "Choke holds and chest compressions by police (what the coroner lists as the official cause of death for Eric Garner) should be federally banned."
-You want to so quickly outlaw chest compressions and choke holds by police, then how do you propose officers preform lawful take downs should the need arise? Officers are many times by themselves in the field and when faced with someone who is more prepared for a fight then themselves, a choke hold or chest compressions could be the only thing that stands between the officer getting severely hurt or even killed, or the movement up the pyramid of force that none of you clearly know about.
3. "All police officers must wear forward-facing body cameras while on duty. They cost just $99 and are having a significant, positive impact in several cities around the United States and the world. Turning them off should warrant immediate termination."
-Alright, lets be realistic. If you live in a small town, your police department will consist of anywhere from 10-18, if you live in a big city such as Manhattan you could easily have 500+ officers between all the road ranks. If you want to place these $99 cameras on each one of them, you are going to pay anywhere upwards of $1,782-$50,000. That being said, do you honestly think that a town, especially in this economy could afford to just grant this funding to a dept without raising taxes? Aside from a few towns i can tell you likely they can’t. Oh, and before you say it, the federal gov’t can hardly afford to keep it’s own funding passed in congress, it would be a cold day in hell before you would see amounts listed above passed FOR EVERY STATE. Then, if they decide to pass this for some unknown reason, taxes would surely rise and that would be the next thing everyone would bitch and riot about.
4. "A trusted 3rd party business should monitor and store all videos from forward facing cameras."
-Alright, think about this one logically, you are going to trust a 3rd party to store and monitor these things. That’s just asking for corruption, need I say more?
5. "Suspensions for violations of any of the above offenses should be UNPAID. If a third party review board clears the officer, the back pay, which could sit in escrow could be given back to the officer. If found guilty, the money in escrow should be given to victims of police violence."
-So you want to take the pay away from officers under investigation huh? Alright lets put you in their shoes then. Would you want to get suspended without pay from your job? that average adult has a spouse and 1 to 2 kids, so your really going to sit here and tell me that you would want to take away the likely main source of income from these people for anywhere from 6-12 months (because yes that’s how long these investigations will go AT BEST) Then, you want to tell me that you would then if found guilty give all that money to the victims family. Alright firstly let me be the first to say i don’t disagree with restitution. However, I must point out that you can’t just give some random amount of money based on what the officer would have made. These things must be designated by a judge in a civil hearing.
6. " All murders by police must be investigated, immediately so, by a trusted and unbiased third party. It is not sufficient for the police, who are like a family, to investigate a murder by one of their own."
-So, who would you propose investigate these crimes then? What outside agency would you propose we call in to do this investigation if the police are “like a family" as you would say. That being said, don’t even bother proposing the idea of a civilian investigation agency, because again cited by all the recent hate on officers, that’s literally a door with a welcome mat in front for corruption.
7. “Convictions for the above offenses should have their own set of mandatory minimum penalties. The men who killed Diallo, Bell, Grant, Carter, Garner, and others all walk free while over 1,000,000 non violent offenders are currently incarcerated in American prisons.”
-Does anyone know what a thing called a 2c book is? anyone? i didn’t think so. Ill enlighten the situation. A 2c book lists all criminal code (Other states have equivalents) Thus, why do you propose adding a different set of sentences for different people, this sounds like bias anti-offer propaganda to me. Last I checked a murder was still a murder no matter who committed it (unless the persons involved were under the age of 5)
Furthermore, the little fact of over 1,000,000 people in american prisons fro non-violent crimes, well last I checked a person dealing drugs hurts a community just as much as a murder does, it sure effects a lot more people too. That being said, the majority of the above figure is indeed drug related crimes, and there are only a small percentage of violent offenders, however American prisons are shifting more toward restorative justice approaches in today’s time which means the implementation of rehabilitation programs have been put in place. Therefore, It is unjust to use the prison population of over 1,000,000 as a shock figure due to the fact that the only reason it’s that high is due to all the rehabilitation programs put into place, which may I add according to the UCR (If anyone knows what that is now a days) crime rates have gone down because of them.
Scrolling around Facebook today I found this. This single cartoon represents all the stupid flack that has been going around in the heat of this nonsense drama between police and the public. These are the people we need to blame for this injustice. The Media.
the fact that people have donated over $8000+ to a MURDERER who is already on PAID LEAVE fucking disgusts and terrifies me
Stop white people
"Support Officer Darren Wilson" = "I’m a racist asshole who wants to give a nice big bonus to the guy who killed an unarmed black kid because that’s what I secretly wish I could do".
Fuck literally every person who donated even a penny.
Okay here is another example of an ignorant post. Darren Wilson is innocent until proven guilty. From all the evidence that was shown on the news, it personally sounds to me that he was completely justified in his actions. Maybe before bashing on a guy WHO WAS JUST TRYING TO DO HIS JOB, you could go out and learn a little bit about use of force. No cop signs on duty for a day hoping to go out and shoot someone. and that little comment about donating to him is being a racist asshole? the only reason a person would say that was because the guy he shot was African American. I can site at least 10 other cases of police involved shootings where the officer was Caucasian, and so was the victim and no one gave a shit. I can then site at least 10 other cases where the officer was Caucasian and the victim was African American where the public flipped shit and ruined the mans life. Yea Darren Wilson is on paid leave but he still now has to deal with things like lawsuits brought against him, and let me tell you lawyers are not cheap, so yea donations can help the poor guy. Thusly, to those that want to sit there and say “Fuck literally every person who donated even a penny.” you sir are a real ignorant scum bag.
Cops have been put on notice: Let the cameras roll.
Camera-shy cops across the city were reminded they can’t legally take action to stop someone from filming them while they’re on the beat, the Daily News has learned. The refresher was provided in a memo the chief of department’s office distributed to all police commands Wednesday.
“Members of the public are legally allowed to record police interactions,” the memo states. “Intentional interference such as blocking or obstructing cameras or ordering the person to cease constitutes censorship and also violates the First Amendment.”
Cops can take action if videographers and shutterbugs “interfere with police operations,” the memo notes.
spread this like wildfire
when you see abuse, take out your phone and film that shit.
Post it on YouTube, send it to the news, let the whole world hear about it.
Okay scrolling through my feed I can’t help but see this. It’s Posts like this that really piss me off. Okay Firstly, Yes I understand the Film abuse thing, but last I checked 9 times out of 10 the person filming isn’t a trained officer to be able to tell what force is excessive, so filming an abstract part of a confrontation then posting it online just further increases the blue line between public servants and the public. It’s with this that I cant help but mention that to whomever is reading this, if you are going to record a confrontation between law enforcement and a suspect, RECORD THE ENTIRE THING, NOT JUST THE ARREST!!!
I say this because unless you have the entire confrontation, YOU DON’T KNOW THE SITUATION THAT LED TO THE USE OF FORCE! The person that you just recorded them tackling to the ground could have been a violent fugitive who just tried to run, or maybe he was the guy that just stabbed someone two blocks over, you don’t know, therefore unless you are going to record the entire thing you are doing no good to anyone.
Secondly, It also annoys me how the majority of people only record these things to be scum bags to the officers and try to provoke a confrontation, to which the filmier then spurts out a load of shit about the first amendment. Now don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying this is a bad thing all the time, but the majority of the time it is. If an officer asks that you not record them, then don’t, they are only trying to do their job and don’t need you taking half a situation without any context whatsoever, recording it, and putting it online to blemish the department.
i don’t get this. why does this have so many notes. does it have to do with the type of ice cream? Napoleon ice cream? Napoleon Bonaparte? is that Napoleon Bonaparte’s hand?
A reservoir of water three times the volume of all the oceans has been discovered deep beneath the Earth’s surface. The finding could help explain where Earth’s seas came from.
The water is hidden inside a blue rock that lies 700 kilometres underground in the mantle, the layer of hot rock between Earth’s surface and its core.
Some geologists think water arrived in comets as they struck planets, but the new discovery supports an alternative idea that the ocean oozed out of Earth’s interior layer.
OH MY GODDDDDDD -NERDS OUT-
That’s where the lizard people live
